NEW YORK (WABC) -- If you have outdoor plans, Saturday is the better day. Conditions will be drier and milder, with temperatures mostly in the 60s.

Clouds will come and go, thinning at times, especially inland. Along the coast, temperatures will stay cooler, while New York City may climb into the 60s, and interior parts of New Jersey could briefly touch 70 degrees.

Air quality will be moderate, and pollen levels will remain high. The UV index is slightly lower than usual thanks to cloud cover.

Saturday night turns cooler and damp, with lows near 52 degrees. Drizzle may develop late in the evening, so an umbrella is a good idea if you're heading out.

Rain becomes more widespread toward dawn on Sunday, and the day starts out wet and chilly. Temperatures will be in the 50s early, but may actually drop into the 40s during the morning and midday before rebounding slightly late in the day.

It will take most of Sunday for conditions to improve, with only limited brightening expected toward sunset. Expect a cool breeze, damp conditions, and around a quarter inch of rainfall. Highs will struggle to reach the low 50s, but it will feel colder.

The chilly pattern lingers into early next week, with sun and clouds on Monday and a high near 52. A stray sprinkle - or even a high-elevation flurry - isn't out of the question. Overnight lows drop to 38 in the city, with many suburbs near or below freezing.

Another frosty start and cool temperatures on Tuesday before a return to more seasonable spring weather by midweek.
